It’s well-known, that the competition to reach audiences in the digital universe is fierce. How do you make the most out of your limited advertising in a competitive traffic acquisition space? The answer is simple: get people to share your content. Build “buzz” into your PR, promotions, and distribution strategy. Let’s start with some simple math. If you pay a content recommendation company $300,000 to distribute a series of articles you’ve created to a group of 1 million people, you are paying $0.30 for every person you expose your video to. But if an additional 500,000 people see the video after it’s embedded in a blogpost on BuzzFeed and shared by your customers on Facebook, your cost-per-viewer decreases. The bottom line is that you need an integrated content promotion strategy: you need a healthy mix of organic and paid traffic, which comes from building trust with your target audience. But […]

Personalization has long been a topic of conversation within technology and media circles, but the intensity of that discourse has ramped up in recent years due to the rise of social media. “The users have voted by going to Facebook for their news,” said Nick Denton, the founder and CEO of Gawker Media Group. “Personalization may be the biggest issue in online media today.” Last week, over 60 attendees gathered at Gawker’s new HQ in Downtown Manhattan to hear from a select panel of executives whose companies are each grappling with the challenges and opportunities around “personalization.” Joining Nick on stage was our own Adam Singolda, founder and CEO of Taboola; Ian Fette, CTO at Gawker Media Group; and Daniel Doubrovkine, CTO at Artsy. While computer engineers have been experimenting with forms of “machine learning” since the 90s, Adam remarked that the these projects are becoming more important as companies […]

In their quest to reach the coveted “Inbox Zero,” many people around the world have installed Boomerang for Gmail, a popular browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and Safari that helps users take control of their email inboxes. Boomerang supports an array of useful features — such as “send later,” snooze messages, read receipts, and more — that enable users to better manage the flow of incoming and outgoing emails throughout the day. Although Boomerang has had tremendous success acquiring new users through search and referral channels, their team was looking for a new way to reach audiences who may not be aware of such email productivity “hacks.” Realizing the potential for content-driven efforts to educate these new audiences, Boomerang teamed up with Taboola to craft a strategy for tapping into the “discovery” channel. Our teams published a case study about the partnership, which involved extensive A/B testing to uncover the […]

With the increased competition for attention in today’s digital landscape, it can be especially difficult for publishers to break through and join the conversation around the culture’s most talked-about topics. American Media, Inc. (AMI) has a long history of doing this through its widely-circulated print periodicals, and now they are replicating that success for the web, transforming its popular media brands into some of the fastest growing online destinations in their respective categories. I’m excited to announce that, earlier this morning, Taboola signed a new, two-year partnership with AMI to bring our content discovery technology to its leading roster of sites, including Radar Online, Men’s Fitness, Star, OK! Magazine, National Enquirer and Muscle & Fitness. In addition to implementing our personalized content recommendations, AMI will be exploring other aspects of Taboola’s discovery platform as a means to boost engagement and monetization across its network. These include Taboola’s Audience Exchange™ architecture, […]

Digital-first publishers may be more nimble than their traditional counterparts, but building a loyal readership from scratch can be especially difficult given the level of online competition for user attention. While social media networks have had a “flattening” effect, allowing new sites with compelling content to quickly go “viral” and reach massive new audiences, even those platforms are becoming increasingly cluttered, and many publishers are beginning to question the value of social-referred audiences. This is a challenged faced by publishers around the world, including independent digital media company Scroll, whose online destination Scroll.in has become one of the fastest-growing news sites in India. Looking to diversify its audience development efforts, Scroll teamed up with Taboola to target engaged audiences on top sites across the web, and ultimately grow their overall readership. We published a case study that features some of the key highlights from this partnership, including data around how […]

As the web becomes more and more fragmented and mobile traffic booms, it is increasingly important for publishers around the world to think about how they can best engage audiences across all platforms, and this challenge has no borders. In India, millions of people are just now starting to get their hands on mobile devices. This single purchase decision has transformed the general population’s access to information and with it, the opportunity for publishers, brands, and marketers to cultivate relationships with millions of new consumers. To that end, we’re excited to announce that Taboola has inked the largest deal in the Indian digital media space with NDTV Convergence, the digital arm of NDTV group. Our exclusive, 3-year deal is estimated to be worth approximately Rs. 90-100 Crores, or $13-15 million USD in revenue share for NDTV. Regarded as one of the most highly respected global publishers in the world, […]

It’s no secret that mobile is taking over the world. If you’ve attended a marketing conference at any point in the past few years, you’re probably already familiar with the particulars: Americans spend more internet time on their phones than on their computers, there are more people in the world who own mobile devices than toothbrushes, and brands are going to pay big, big bucks to reach those users in the years to come. But when marketers think about converting this growing pool of mobile users into paying customers, they often skip one crucial first step along the path to purchase: engagement. Indeed, there’s no way your content recommendations are going to accomplish much of anything if you haven’t first created a mobile landing page that adds value to the user without wasting his or her time. When it comes to mobile engagement, there are no hacks, tips, or tricks […]

In recent years, technological advances around solar energy have lowered panel prices to a more affordable threshold, and many homeowners are beginning to consider residential installations that enable them to take control over their energy consumption. This exciting new market has attracted companies from around the world, including both existing energy utilities and disruptive startups. But marketing the panels can prove difficult as only certain types of houses and geographical locations are suitable for implementations. This summer, Taboola partnered with a solar energy company based in New Zealand to boost its customer acquisition efforts throughout the country. The collaboration targeted audiences located in the Greater Auckland Area, directed users to a landing page that gathered information about their house type, and ultimately enrolled eligible prospects to consider equipping their homes for a sustainable future. We published a case study of Taboola’s work with the company, including some of the below […]
