In-App Monetization With Paid Content Drives 2x Growth

With mobile traffic growing 1.5 times per year, according to a recent report published by Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, we at Taboola have been working hard with our partners to think about ways we could both achieve a consistent “platform-orthodox” discovery experience for users as well maintain a strong performance. Now, using our set of APIs – publishers, smart TV and mobile app developers can render a native content discovery experience leveraging Taboola’s technology.

Last week, we announced an exciting partnership with StepLeader, a leading mobile app developer for local media, to launch in over 100 different Android and iOS publishers’ apps, enabling millions of users to discover content they may like within the native app experience.

StepLeader implemented Taboola’s recently launched REST API into their suite of mobile native apps by top publishers including Fox Television Stations, Capitol Broadcasting Company, ComCorp USA, Cowles California Media, News-Press Gazette, Midwest Television and Titan TV Broadcast Group.

The results so far have proven to be extremely successful, resulting in StepLeader’s report that surfacing Taboola’s sponsored content recommendations increased mobile banner CPMs by over 200% and CTRs by over 400%.

This is definitely a marathon whereby as an industry, we’ll need to test a variety of different implementations and experiences to provide the ultimate discovery experience for users and drive high performance. Our screen is only getting smaller (unless you’re buying the Samsung Note :-)), and strong performance will not be a nice perk anymore but a necessity. On the same note, marketers will need to find value in whatever “small paid-unit” we’ll have on our miniature screens.
