This past March, we announced the official launch of Taboola Newsroom, a real-time optimization technology that empowers editorial teams with actionable data around what story headlines, thumbnails and placements generate the maximum engagement across desktop and mobile homepages. Following up on Part 1 of our recap, NBCUniversal News Group’s Elisabeth Sami joined us at Taboola’s global headquarters in New York City to speak with WIRED Contributing Editor Spencer Reiss about her role as SVP of Strategy and Business Development. Her team oversees both esteemed news brands (NBC News, MSNBC, and CNBC) and digital news start-ups (Breaking News, Stringwire, NowThis). Media has always been driven by technology Throughout the talk, Sami expressed a tone of optimism about the future of media. Although digital consumption is impacting network TV viewership, news consumption is growing overall, creating an opportunity for news organizations to continue investing in and reaching audiences across platforms. The NBCU News Group constantly identifies new ways to deepen engagement with consumers. That might be through news feeds on Twitter and Facebook, on smartphone or tablet apps, or on set top box applications through connected TVs. Reiss asked whether […]
Thank you to everyone who joined our webinar with Tim Ruder and Chris Muller last Thursday to talk about mobile discovery and the upcoming Google mobile-friendly algorithm update. That update, scheduled to roll out beginning April 21, represents a dramatic change in mobile search results that we hope you are well positioned to handle. In case you weren’t able to attend, you can watch the full video of our discussion below and view the slide deck here: You asked a number of great questions during and after the webinar and we thought it would be worth highlighting some of the most popular ones here: You mentioned that web pages need to load as fast as 1 second for mobile users. Can you elaborate on that a little more? The one-second recommendation comes from Google’s blog post Making Smartphone Sites Load Fast, and is reiterated in the help file Mobile Analysis […]
In her role as SVP of Strategy and Business Development for the NBCUniversal News Group, Elisabeth Sami works across traditional broadcast and digital media, presiding over a portfolio of internationally respected and award-winning news brands including NBC News, MSNBC, and CNBC. She also experiments with young digital news start-ups such as Breaking News, Stringwire, and NowThis. Sami joined us at Taboola’s global headquarters in New York City to speak with WIRED Contributing Editor Spencer Reiss as part of our Taboola Talks series. Over 100 attendees — including representatives from leading publishers (Adweek, BBC, Business Insider, BuzzFeed) and media companies (Condé Nast, Comcast, Scripps Network) — gathered to hear Sami discuss her approach to building and expanding a multiplatform news organization within a rapidly changing media ecosystem. Growing the NBCUniversal News Group’s overall portfolio Reiss’ first question for Sami was how she prioritizes her time given the nearly endless list of […]
Last October, we featured Bundoo on Taboola’s blog as part of our Content Spotlight series, explaining how the site’s expert-written articles and smart content strategy have established Bundoo as the ultimate parenting resource on the web. As Taboola continues to work with Bundoo toward growing its online community of parents and child-care health professionals, we published a case study detailing some of the results our teams have achieved. A few key highlights: Taboola generated 22 percent lower bounce rates than all competing discovery platforms. Taboola’s on-site “organic” recommendations generated 60,000 incremental monthly clicks on Bundoo.com. Bundoo has seen a 13 percent jump in new users every month since partnering with Taboola. With Taboola, Bundoo has significantly grown their level of audience engagement, including a 45% increase in pages-per-visit and a 70% jump in time-on-site. They say images are worth a thousand words. We’re not sure about that, but we do know that they get at least 30% more shares on social media. Gallery pages are a great way to display image-driven content and provide organization and structure. Decide If Gallery Pages Would be an Effective Format for Your Content Galleries help user engagement because they require continuous interaction with the page, and give the user a sense of control. When is it effective to use a gallery? Ask yourself these questions: Are there clear steps or numbered items in your content? Can you add an image for each concept you are introducing? Do you have more than 4 items but less than 25? Will breaking up your content improve readability? Use Your Titles to Encourage Clicks The best titles for galleries promise something. Consuming gallery content takes time, so be sure to provide something […]
