Taboola Beats Display, Enrolling 31% Higher-Value Users for Secret Escapes

Secret Escapes is one of the hottest tickets in the burgeoning luxury travel deal space. The company was recently ranked by Deloitte as the 7th fastest growing technology company across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the company raised a fresh $60 million round of funding (led by Google) this past July.

Secret Escapes Enrolls 31% Higher Value Users with Taboola than Display

The UK-based company operates a members-only travel site, self-proclaimed as the “worst-kept secret in luxury travel,” offering discounts and deals on luxury hotels and vacations. As Secret Escapes expands its operations into new markets — including Germany, Italy, Sweden, Spain, Norway, and the US — an ongoing priority is user acquisition.

Having experimented with marketing efforts across display channels, Secret Escapes’ marketing team found low click-through-rates (CTR) as well as underwhelming conversion rates. Seeking out alternative channels for acquiring new users, the company teamed up with Taboola to realize the power of content discovery and share its story with high-quality audiences across the web.

Our teams published a case study about the partnership, which found that Taboola-referred users were 31 percent more valuable than people arriving from display, because they were more likely to book travel within their first month of signing up for the site. Working closely with Taboola’s account management team, Secret Escapes was also able to significantly optimize its desktop campaigns, generating a 288 percent CTR boost from July to September.
